Fraud in SSRI drug trials - The Gathering Storm Part II

Sometimes there is no other way to say it than through humour. We have taken the most vulnerable in society, and we have lied to them. We have lied as a profession. We have allowed our "regulators" to lie and to collude with lying. The best and most intelligent of our profession have remained silent.

This is the classic description of the research method in these trials:
Monty Python: The Gathering Storm - Part II

"Who's gonna investigate the man who investigates the man who investigates me" was the refrain of "The Investigator's Song", words and music by Harold Rome/Zero Mostel in 1947. The song's final line: "One more problem puzzles me; Pardon my strange whim. But who's gonna investigate the man who investigates the man who investigates... him?"
(The People's Song Book, Waldemar Hille, ed., Boni & Gaer, 1948)

Maybe the MHRA have been ignoring the facts because they have been too busy sharing in the profits.

I can just see Woods now, counting his sterling whilst humming the tune of 'Always Look on the Bright Side of Life'

Fortunately, for the members of the MHRA, their spouses and children have not had to endure the hell of Seroxat withdrawal!

I'm telling you, your primary care doctor is clueless when it comes to ssri's and how they work. All they know is what formulary covers it at their practice. They can't measure depression with a blood test, so they have know real knowledge of neurotransmitters. The drug reps tell them their drug is better for this symptom or that symptom, but most of it is a lie. I should know, I lied everyday to my docs about Cymbalta and how you could treat every patient with depression with it and it was safer than all the rest. They had some good results and started writing it, but the remission rate was no better than 35%. They don't care, as long as they don't get call backs from the soccer mom with a lot of anxiety. We used to have so called real patients at our big national meetings... tell the reps all about their success on one of our drugs... funny though that this woman from Alabama had no problem speaking in front of 10,000 people. Perhaps I've grown a little synical, but I believe 100% that these people were hired to brainwash the sales force into believing all this crap. Most of them really ate this stuff up... pathetic. The drug companies don't care about the patient... they care about $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$... no matter what.
